My Next Step / Q & A

I want to KNOW Christ

We are thrilled that you desire to have a relationship with God through His Son Jesus Christ. This relationship is a huge step of faith and one that will change your life for eternity. Jesus told us that His main reason for leaving heaven and coming to earth was so “the world might be saved through Him.” Let me take a few moments and answer some important questions.

Why do I need to be “saved,” as Jesus said?

Not long after God created Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden they chose to disobey God’s command to not eat of a particular tree. This disobedience created a separation of man from God. Paul, a writer of the many New Testament books, tells us in Romans 3:23 that “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” In Romans 5:12 Paul also says, “just as sin came into the wold through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all have sinned.” This means that no matter how “good” you try to be, it is still not good enough to get you into heaven. That’s why we need Jesus.

Because we have sinned against God we are not only separated from Him like Adam and Eve were, we are also condemned to spend eternity in hell, separated form Him for eternity. Romans 6:23 tells us that the “wages of sin is death.” This death is eternal separation from God in a place called hell. This is not good news. My sin and your sin has earned us a very bad death sentence But God wanted to make a way for us to be saved from this eternal death sentence. That’s why Jesus came. The rest of Romans 6:23 says, “but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” God wants to give you and me a free gift of eternal life with Him. This is good news.

How do I get saved?

God made it very simple for us to receive this free gift. Paul says in Romans 10:9-10, “…if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.”

These words from Paul tells us that salvation comes by admitting to God that we have sinned against Him and are in need of His forgiveness. We also must believe: 1) Jesus is God, 2) He came to earth and lived a perfect life, 3) He died as a sacrifice so that the penalty for all the sins of the world could be settled, 4) He was buried and rose again. Finally, we must confess these things with our mouth.
